South Okanagan musician gears up for bigger stage and new album – Okanagan
The music flows as freely from Kansas-Lee as the blood runs through his veins.
The Osoyoos, BC musician is easily recognizable throughout the valley, from street performances to local festival stages. Now she’s gearing up to take to a bigger stage in the South Okanagan at the Venables Theater in Oliver.
« It’s basically going to be like sitting in my room with me and I’m going to jump from piano to guitar and play music that I’ve written and songs that I like to sing that I haven’t written, » he said. said Kansas Hatherly, who plays Kansas-Lee.
The musical artist has lived all over the world and is now back for the winter, sharing his talents and creating new music for release in the spring. Hatherly said she had hundreds of unreleased songs floating around in her head, scribbled in notebooks and saved on her phone. She can find a song in almost anything, she explained – she’s a conduit for music to flow through her.

« Sitting in front of a piano, I go into a trance playing chords for 10 to 15 minutes, then I start singing and sometimes a whole song comes out or sometimes just a word or an idea and I sing something and I say to myself: ‘Oh that’s it, that’s something,’ Hatherly said.
Some of the original songs she plans to perform revolve around finding her independence, while others are from her upcoming album.

A song yet to be named is sung while playing the guitar.
« It’s about how I’m gonna talk and sing and do whatever I want to do without worrying about what you think, » Hatherly said. « (It’s about) sovereignty and oneself. »
Hatherly performs instead of Oliver as part of the Venables Alive! series, which gives local talent a chance to perform on a bigger stage.
« She’s an honest alternative folk artist with a powerful, dynamic voice and presence, » said Aimee Grice, marketing and promotions at Venables Theater in a press release.
« His writing is not identified with any particular genre but carries a theme of raw authenticity summoned by a lifetime of total creativity. »
Hatherly will take the stage at the Venables Theater in Oliver on October 19 and tickets are available online.
