Kaja Kallas hinted that some politicians were just looking to gain publicity with such trips
Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas insisted she was doing a lot to help Ukraine in its conflict with Russia and didn’t need to go to Kyiv to prove it.
During an interview with the Postimees site on Monday, Kallas was asked why she did not follow in the footsteps of German, French, Italian and British leaders who visited Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky in Kyiv.
“I believe I am doing a lot for the good of Ukraine. I don’t need to prove anything by going to a military hotspot to appear in news feeds again,” she answered.
Instead of making official visits, she « do more by talking to key allies and persuading them » to increase aid to kyiv, said the Prime Minister.
“And Ukrainians know this very well. They say themselves that there are people who come to see them only to take pictures for social networks”, Kalas noted.
Estonia has been a staunch supporter of Ukraine during the ongoing conflict, supplying Kyiv with 250 million euros worth of weapons, including Javelin anti-tank missile systems, howitzers, mines, grenade launchers, mortars and ammunition.
