Socal firefighters save the goat from a Baaaad situation

The firefighters saved a goat from a difficult situation of Baaaad after taking a fall from the summit of his favorite nap rock and found themselves trapped between two rocks of mini-gut.

Friday evening, firefighters from Cal Fire San Diego County responded to a call for goat rescue on a farm in a rural area of Descanso. The task was not simple, given the size and weight of the rocks between which the animal had been closely pinned.

A goat trampled last week between the rocks in a rural area of the County of San Diego.

“The goat was very stuck in there,” said CAL fire engineer Jason Robertson. “We couldn’t free him by simply making him get stuck.”

Fortunately, the team is trained in specialized research and rescue methods and was able to use pressure inflatable cushions to create more space between the rocks.

“Those we use can lift up to 160,000 pounds,” said Robertson. “So we used this to be able to push the rock just enough to free it a little so that it can withdraw.”

A leash was attached to the neck of the goat and used to pull it forward while a stick was used to push it gently from behind until it can finally come out. Even if the goat has dropped around six feet, she came out of the event with only one over-node on her elbow, said Robertson.

The children who live on the farm were delighted by the rescue and praised their goat with big hugs.

“We are deeply honored to serve our communities and grateful for the confidence we help help when it is necessary,” said Cal Fire in a press release on Instagram.

“When a goat finds itself between a rock and a hard place, our firefighters do not laugh!”

In addition to resuming its tasks, offering milk to the family farm, the goat can now start doing a large second job – helping to prevent forest fires by grazing on a flammable brush.

Cal Fire and many other fire fighting agencies across the State, including the County County fire service, use goats and sheep in the context of forest fire management strategies. The insatiable appetite of herbivores for vegetation and weeds is particularly useful in steep areas that are difficult to reach where machines are unable to release brushes.
