Family-owned Sheetz convenience store chain is slashing prices at the pump ahead of July 4. President and CEO Travis Sheetz said the holiday weekend was a great opportunity to provide financial relief to travelers.

The company is offering 88 unleaded gasoline for $3.99 a gallon and lowering the price of E85 gasoline to $3.49 through July 5.

Travis Sheetz told « Fox & Friends » on Wednesday that Americans with « light-duty » vehicles produced in 2001 or newer can take advantage of discounted unleaded gasoline while flex-fuel vehicles can use E85.

Sheetz’s reduced fares come as U.S. travelers face record high gasoline prices across the country.

BIDEN IS LOOKING EVERYWHERE TO LOWER GAS PRICES – EXCEPT INCREASE OIL PRODUCTION

After the national average hit $5 a gallon in mid-June, President Biden called for a gas tax exemption that would last through September. Biden’s plan would suspend the federal gas tax and save Americans 18 cents per gallon for about three months.

Sheetz said he saw firsthand the « big impact » high gas prices had on families, which ultimately impacted his family business as well.

« High gasoline prices aren’t good for gasoline retailers either, because people have to spend more on gasoline, and so they have less disposable income to spend on other things, » he said. he declared. « It’s difficult for everyone. »

A national spokesperson for AAA called the prolonged period of record prices « unprecedented » and warned that prices could remain high through the summer as the war in Ukraine continues.

Sheetz, however, said politics and foreign issues played no role in the decision to cut prices over the holiday weekend.
