Shania Twain defends others in country music.

The legendary star of the genre used his acceptance speech For the Equal Play price during the CMT Awards ceremony on Sunday to call for more equity and diversity in the country music industry.

“When I wrote the phrase ‘Man, I feel like a woman’, honestly, I did not know at the time that it would become the underlying current of a career of several decades,” she said, referring to one of her greatest successes. “It’s incredible to see how only a single statement can give power to so many people.”

The expression, said Twain, “was adopted by a range of fantastic communities all over the world and has become a real power path … which brings me so much joy”.

“I believe in all -inclusive country music. We are a family,” said Twain. “This is a kind of music with a rich story that has raised and nourished my own career as a songwriter, interpreter and recording since my childhood. Currently, industry standards do not really do this.”

Twain, who received the Prize from the hands of rapper Megan Thee Stallion, praised some of the various artists she highlighted during her tour of me this year, notably Lily Rose, Lindsay Ell, Hailey Whitters, Mickey Guyton and others.

“I will continue to do my best as a pioneer,” said Twain. “Together, let us make sure that all our artists’ colleagues can play on an equal footing, whatever their gender, age or race. »»

She also played Cappella with the African-American singing group The Boykinz, while putting a prize on stage. Twain logged in with the group, who are Country risers and rising stars, after Kelly Clarkson has surprised them recently by bringing Twain to meet them during an episode of the Clarkson day talk show.
