VANCOUVER — Adam Gaudette scored the key goal in the fifth round of the shootout on Tuesday, allowing the Ottawa Senators to win 4-3 at the expense of the Vancouver Canucks.
Alex Formenton (twice) and Parker Kelly were Ottawa’s regulation scorers.
Nikita Zaitsev provided two assists and Filip Gustavsson blocked 34 shots.
JT Miller had a 30th goal for the Canucks, who had won their last six games.
Brock Boeser and Travis Dermott also scored for Vancouver.
Jaroslav Halak was intractable in the first period, making 14 saves. However, he appeared to be injured late in the period. Thatcher Demko made 15 saves from the second period.
The Canucks sit four points behind the Stars, who have the second overall playoff spot in the West. Dallas has a game in hand.
The Canucks will play Minnesota on Thursday. Ottawa will visit the Blue Jackets the next day.
