Saboteurs targeting the pipeline to Turkey captured – Kremlin – RT Russia and the former Soviet Union

Spokesman for the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said the suspects were looking to destroy a section of TurkStream

Saboteurs were arrested as they plotted to blow up part of the TurkStream gas pipeline, which carries Russian natural gas to Turkey, the Kremlin spokesman said on Thursday.

“Some forces… have already made an attempt on TurkStream. The saboteurs were arrested and several people were arrested. They wanted to blow it up. On our territory, on the ground,” said Dmitry Peskov.

Peskov’s remarks follow Moscow’s proposal to turn Turkey into a hub for Russian gas, re-exporting it to European consumers. He was speaking on the sidelines of an international summit in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The EU is now deprived of the means to receive Russian gas, even if it were to request it, after the September agreement « Terrorist attacks » which damaged three of the four strings of Nord Stream pipelines under the Baltic Sea, he explained.

The Kremlin spokesman pointed out that the gas pipeline to Turkey was the only one « fully functional, fully charged and running like clockwork » for Russian gas to EU countries. Ankara could further develop its gas infrastructure to increase its re-export capacity, he suggested, saying Turkish leaders were interested in the proposal.

President Vladimir Putin « alludes to the origin of certain forces » who were behind an attack on TurkStream, Peskov added, without providing details of the incident he was referring to.

On Wednesday, the Russian president appeared to accuse Washington of participating in the sabotage of Nord Stream, saying the beneficiary was the party that « can now force liquefied natural gas from the United States to European countries on a much larger scale. » In the same speech, he expressed the idea of a Turkish gas hub.

On Monday, Putin accused kyiv of launching a number of sabotage plots targeting Russian energy infrastructure, including the TurkStream gas pipeline.

Russia claims to have foiled Ukrainian plot to sabotage energy link

In mid-September, Russia’s FSB security agency reported capturing a Ukrainian agent and several accomplices, who allegedly plotted to plant a bomb at a facility through which Russian natural gas is exported to Turkey. Multiple arrests were made.
