Roughriders suspend backup quarterback for impaired driving

The Saskatchewan Roughriders suspended backup quarterback Jake Dolegala after informing the team that he had been arrested and charged with impaired driving.
A brief statement from the team said Dolegala was charged during the team’s bye week. The league office has been notified, the statement said.
« Drunk driving is a significant issue in our province, which can have dangerous consequences, and we are disappointed in Jake for his actions, » the team statement read in part.
Dolegala spoke to reporters on Monday, saying he was embarrassed by his actions and apologizing.
« I never want to be a distraction from our focus – from what we want to accomplish this year – with the playoffs coming up, » he said.
« It’s obviously a tough conversation to have, but I wanted to be upfront and put it all on the table. »
« It’s unfortunate…He’s embarrassed about it, he feels bad about it and I hope he learns from it and grows, » said Craig Dickenson, the head coach of the ‘crew.
« We are going to support him because he is one of our teammates, but we also know he has things to do to make things right. »
