Rob Reiner on the set of the false orgasm scene with mom

Rob Reiner threw his mother in a key scene from his 1989 classic When Harry met Sally – But he now says that he may not have realized how embarrassing it was going to be.

The director appeared on CBS ‘ 60 minutes Sunday evening, where he talked about his new suite, Spinal Tap II: the end continues, as well as its end of the 80s with Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal.

The latter played Crystal and Ryan as title characters, and the two had a key scene in the film where Sally and Harry had lunch in an animated cold meats. Their conversation consists of Sally trying to convince a doubtful Harry that at least one of his former sexual partners has more than probably faked orgasm with him. Sally simulates the act – loudly, while striking on his table – and brings eyes of the other guests. The scene ends with one of the main lines in the history of cinema, pronounced by Estelle Reiner: “I will have what she has.”

But things have become really embarrassing to Reinger when he had to intervene and show Ryan how he wanted her to act our moment.

“The first two times, she hasn’t fully done it,” he said. “And finally I sat in front of Billy. And I acted for her.… And I hammer the table: “Yes! Yes! Yes! And I realize that I have an orgasm in front of my mother, you know?

The film ends with – spoiler alert! – Longtime friends Harry and Sally get married and talk about their wedding reception. Interesting fact, it was not the way things could have ended: as indicated on 60 minutes, Reiner actually changed the end in a happy ending after meeting his wife now Michele, who is now used as a producer on his films, including Spinal Tap II: The end continues.

Reiner – Who also takes up his role in this suite as a director of a documentary on an unfortunate rock group – says he realizes that there was a “high bar” given the criticisms of the original classic cult, which was published 41 years ago.

“Are we crazy to make another?” He said. “It’s crazy. The bar is just too high.”

After Harry Shearer (who plays Derek Small) managed to continue controlling the rights of the original, who paved the way for a follow -up.

“Now, he’s 40 years later, we have these rights: what does them with them?” And we started throwing ideas, ”said Reiner.

The two films strongly depend on advertising – or “Schnadeling”, as Reiner calls it – from distribution but also on the famous faces that cameé, including Paul McCartney.

The original film, which is recognized for having helped to launch the false metal genre, had fun in rock groups and was inspired by certain real scenarios.

“Apparently, Van Halen had a rider in their contract:” No M & M Brun “, said Reiner. “So, a roadie had to sit there choosing the Bruns m & ms. It’s crazy. So we looked at this, and we said:” There is a scene. “” It inspired a scene where Nigel Tufnel (guest of Christopher) complains that the bread is too small.

Michael McKean also resumes his role as David St. Hubbins in the film, which was released in theaters last month and is also available on streaming platforms.
