Rep. Mike Waltz, R-Fla., called for more action against China during his appearance on « Sunday Night in America with Trey Gowdy. »
Following FBI Director Christopher Wray’s warning that China poses the greatest long-term threat to the United States, Waltz insisted the time had come for industries to move away from Chinese companies.
« They have to wake up. If you do business with a Chinese company, if you do business in China, you allow their researchers into your labs. They’re going to steal your intellectual property. That doesn’t make them bad people. people or bad companies or bad Chinese students. Their government is forcing them to do it. They’re going to set up a competitor, subsidize it through the state, bankrupt you and then dominate that market, » Waltz said.

« Historians will look back and say, ‘You funded your biggest competitor. You financed, America, your disappearance. And we are drunk on Chinese dollars, from Wall Street to the NBA, to universities and our politicians at all levels. We need to start – instead of funding the police, how about funding dictatorships? Waltz asked.
He added: « And my message to all the groups I speak to is, when you see ‘Made in China’, take note. It’s not just about jobs and human rights. It’s « It’s a matter of national security. We need to bring those supply chains home. »
Congress continues to have ongoing discussions about divestment from China, Waltz said, in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

« They could literally disable our ability to produce munitions, that’s pretty important to the MoD. Not to mention they could also disable our antibiotics which we don’t produce here anymore. They can disable our cancer drugs. And you’ « It’s Biden and the left pushing us toward a green economy. China produces 90% of the world’s solar power and 90% of the world’s lithium, » Waltz said.
In terms of military strategy, Waltz also stressed that President Biden should move beyond the initial policy of « strategic ambiguity » with the growing threat to Taiwan.

« I think it was good policy for many decades, but now that under President Xi he’s telling his country to prepare for war, and he’s actively threatening Taiwan. He’s talking about replacing the American dream with the Chinese dream, and replacing the United States as the world leader, I think it’s time to abandon this policy, » Waltz said.
He noted that Biden himself appeared to agree with his sentiment before the White House backtracked on his aggressive statement.

« I think it’s high time we made it clear as a deterrent to move from strategic ambiguity to strategic deterrence. And tell the Chinese Communist Party unequivocally that we will defend Taiwan. And why is it so important for the American people? If they take Taiwan, they take the computer chips and all the trade routes to our allies. We can’t allow that to happen, » Waltz concluded.
