Rep. Haley Stevens defeats Levin in Democratic incumbent battle

Rep. Haley Stevens beat a fellow House Democrat in a Tuesday night primary in Michigan, outplaying Rep. Andy Levin in a battle between incumbent and incumbent outside of Detroit.
Stevens’ success comes after Michigan lost a congressional seat and redistricting forced the two Democrats to reunite, with Levin deciding to leave behind the redesigned version of his current seat to face off in the 11th district.
The battle between Levin, a progressive, and Stevens, a moderate, has drawn national and international attention as the latest politicization of US-Israel politics, with the American Israel Public Affairs Committee and its new super PAC se mixing with Stevens and J Street, a more liberal pro-Israel group, supporting Levin. The costly race also underscored the ideological differences that splintered the Democratic Party nationally.
