MIAMI (AP) — Rapper Kodak Black has been arrested in South Florida for trafficking oxycodone and possession of a controlled substance.

The rapper, whose legal name is Bill Kapri, was jailed Friday in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where he is awaiting a bail hearing.

The Florida Highway Patrol said in a statement that troopers pulled over Black because he was driving a purple SUV with window tints that appeared darker than the legal limit.

They detected the smell of marijuana, then searched the SUV and found a small clear bag containing 31 white pills and nearly $75,000 in cash. The tablets were later identified as oxycodone.

The agency says records checks also revealed that Black’s vehicle tag and driver’s license had both expired.

Black’s attorney, Bradford Cohen, said on Twitter that « there are always additional facts and circumstances that give rise to a defense, especially in this case. »

« We’re going to get him bail today and move forward to resolve the case quickly, » he said.

Black was also arrested earlier this year in South Florida for trespassing. Prosecutors later declined to pursue the case.

In January 2020, then-President Donald Trump commuted a three-year federal prison sentence against the rapper for falsifying documents used to purchase weapons. Black had served about half of his sentence.
