Protests from the state of Ladakh: the BJP office is set on fire, violence left 4 dead, 30 injured

The office of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Ladakh was burned on Wednesday, September 24, by demonstrators demanding a state of state.

The demonstrators demanded the inclusion of the Ladakh under the sixth annex of the Indian Constitution.

The demonstrations became violent as the clashes broke out between the police and the demonstrators. Violence left at least four people dead, while 30 other people were injured, said the PTI news agency citing officials.

The current demonstrations are led by the organization Leh Apex (laboratory) which has become violent when the demonstrators alleged that the center had not recognized their requests, according to the news18.

The laboratory group had called for demonstrations on September 24 after two of its members, who were on a 35 -day hunger strike, which started on September 10, fell ill and were taken to the hospital on Tuesday, September 23.

About 15 people had hungry strike, according to the news 18.

Sonam Wangchuk activist also participated in the events in progress in the region.

Police fired tear gas and used Baton to control the crowd. Pierre’s pelting by young people was also reported.

The Ladakh is currently a territory of the Union since August 5, 2019, when the old state of Jammu-et-Cachemire was divided into two different regions after the repeal of article 370.

The two territories of the Union – Jammu -et -Cachemire and Ladakh – were administered by the center for a while. The elections took place in J&K in 2024 when Omar Abdullah became chief minister.
