Prime Minister asks Speaker to reconvene Legislative Assembly
Premier Tim Houston has written to the Speaker of the House of Assembly asking him to reconvene the Legislative Assembly to address the recommendations of the Members’ Compensation Review Committee released today, July 19.
The Prime Minister has said he respects the work of the committee, but the government will not accept its recommendations.
« When inflation is at its highest level in 40 years, gas prices are at historic lows and many hard working Nova Scotians are struggling to make ends meet, it’s not is not the time to raise MPs’ salaries, » Premier Houston said. « As soon as I learned of the proposed increase, I took immediate action to stop it. »
The Prime Minister has asked the Speaker to reconvene the Legislative Assembly so that the government can table amendments to the House of Assembly Act that will prevent the salary increase for MPs recommended by the independent committee.
