Pop superstar Britney Spears marries Sam Asghari in California

Britney Spears married her longtime partner Sam Asghari in a ceremony in Southern California, which took place months after the pop superstar was granted her release from a judicial conservatorship.

Asghari’s rep, Brandon Cohen, confirmed the couple’s nuptials, saying, « I’m very happy that day has come and they’re married. I know [Asghari] wanted this for so long. He’s so caring and supportive every step of the way. »

The wedding took place nine months after the couple’s engagement and nearly seven months after Spears’ conservatorship ended.

While seeking to end the court case that controlled many aspects of her life, Spears expressed her desire to marry Asghari and have children.

Spears got pregnant earlier this year but miscarried in March.

The couple met on the set of the music video for Slumber party in 2016.

Spears’ ex-husband cancels ceremony

The wedding day was not without unexpected drama – Spears’ first husband was arrested after trying to crash their marriage.

Ventura County Sheriff’s Captain Cameron Henderson said officers responded to an intrusion call after 2 p.m. Thursday. He says the pop singer’s first husband, Jason Alexander, was detained at the ceremony site.

Henderson says Alexander was arrested after officers noticed he had a warrant for his arrest in another county.

Alexander took to his Instagram Live when he approached event security. In what appeared to be an almost empty but decorated room, he told them that Spears had invited him.

« She’s my first wife, my only wife, » said Alexander, who was briefly married to Spears – his childhood friend – in 2004. Their marriage lasted just 55 hours.

Spears was previously married to Kevin Federline, with whom she shares two sons, ages 14 and 15.
