Phillies: Harper on disabled list with broken left thumb

SAN DIEGO — The Philadelphia Phillies placed Bryce Harper on the 10-day injured list with a broken left thumb on Sunday.

The hitter of choice was hit by a fast 97 mph from Blake Snell of the Padres on Saturday in San Diego.

He will consult a specialist when the club returns to Philadelphia.

Harper was the most valuable player in the Nationals last year.

He hit .309 with 42 doubles, 35 home runs, 84 RBIs and 101 runs scored.

This season, Harper is batting .318, with 15 homers and 48 RBIs.

Harper said he was very upset after Saturday’s game. He did not meet the media on Sunday.

To replace him in training, the Phillies have called on Mickey Moniak.
