Passenger bursts into American Airlines cockpit at Honduran airport

A passenger burst into the cockpit of an American Airlines plane at an airport in Honduras and damaged the plane as it boarded a flight to Miami before being arrested, the company said on Tuesday. Aerial.

Crew members intervened and the man, who was not immediately identified, was arrested by local authorities, American Airlines said in a statement. No injuries were reported.

ABC News reported the suspect ran into the gangway and into the cockpit, damaging the flight controls and attempting to jump out of an open window as the pilots attempted to stop him.

“We commend our outstanding crew members for their professionalism in handling a difficult situation,” American said in its statement.

The damaged plane, a Boeing 737-800 carrying 121 passengers and six crew members, came to rest at Ramon Villeda Morales International Airport in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, the airline said.

A replacement plane was en route to Honduras and was scheduled to take off at 9:30 p.m. local time.
