Parking will soon cost more in the city of the: what you need to know

Parking in Los Angeles is about to become more expensive after the city leaders have approved prolonged remunerated payment hours and increased the first rate on thousands of spaces measured in more than a decade.

The prices of counters will jump from 50 cents per hour for the city’s 35,000 paid spaces, the new costs that should be in force by the end of October, according to the Los Angeles Ministry of Transport. Prices currently vary from $ 1 to $ 8.50 per hour depending on the location.

Last week’s municipal council unanimously approved the charge for parking on Sunday and extending the hours that motorists will pay to park in measured places. The counters in occupied places with nightlife must be fed up until midnight; In all other areas in the street, parking is not free in mesked places before 8 p.m., these changes can take several months to be completely deployed, officials said.

Municipal transport managers claim that the costs are increasing and that prolonged hours encourage vehicle rolling to help companies whose customers may have trouble finding parking on busy days. Beverly Hills, Pasadena, Santa Monica and West Hollywood also charge daily for street parking.

“It’s a winner-win,” said Ken Husting last month as a main transport engineer for the Ladot Bureau of Parking Management, at the City Transport Committee. “We think it helps the city, it helps businesses and really helps motorists when they try to find a parking lot.”

The Los Angeles Ministry of Transport could not be reached immediately for additional comments.

The increase in parking costs occurs at a time when the city is struggling financially. In May, the Council – faced with a budget deficit of nearly a billion dollars – approved a spending plan for the year 2025-2026 which reduced money for the recruitment of the police in order to prevent other workers in the city.

The city has reached a financial crisis point this year led in part by increasing legal payments, mediocre tax revenues and the increases provided for city employees.

Officials expect the increase in parking parks prices to add $ 14.4 million to the city’s chests.

Los Angeles is not the only city that recently increased its parking prices. From November, Hermosa Beach will increase the cost of parking from $ 2 to $ 3 an hour. Santa Monica has also recently increased its rates measured by $ 2.50 to $ 3 per hour in the city center and up to $ 1.50 throughout the city.

In Orange County, Laguna Beach plans to strengthen her parking income, possibly adding additional paid spaces in the southern section of the city and pursuing its annual increase of 10% of prices in the next five summer.
