Paris Fashion Week highlights 107 houses for 9 days

PARIS (AP) —

Paris is the center of the global luxury industry this week, and Tuesday marks the first big day of ready-to-wear shows at Paris Fashion Week, including Saint Laurent and Dior. These Parisian powerhouses are among the 107 brands presenting the Spring-Summer 2023 collections. Here are some highlights:

BOOTMAKER

Sartorial met the aquatic on Tuesday during Botter’s mixed show of sharp lapels, boxy jackets and poetic cuts. They adorned brightly colored costumes.

Trendy sneakers – again, in bright colors – provided contrast to fashionable suits that sometimes sported marbled lines to evoke the tentacles of sea creatures.

Distressed double denim continued the underwater vibe on a male model who walked the runway with a blue knitted mask all over his face and transparent globs on his hands. It made him feel like he had been attacked by a jellyfish. Or was Rushemy Botter and Lisi Herrebrugh’s show another dig at the coronavirus pandemic?

VAQUERA BRINGS STARS AND STRIPES TO PARIS

A flash of American funk graced Paris for Monday’s fashion week, a day reserved for newcomers. Vaquera, who shot to fame five years ago in New York in an American flag dress with a massive train, has crossed the pond this season and been a highlight.

Designers Patric DiCaprio and Bryn Taubensee mixed their edgy styles with looks that moved in a more commercial direction for spring-summer. Distressed denim, punk exuberance and Vivienne Westwood’s golden age corsetry and numerous American references – like a baggy, shiny biker jacket – defined the display of 31 often-sellable looks.

The American flag made its return to the runway, here in the form of a sheer shawl that led into a fabulous balloon parachute skirt.

LIFE AT LANCÔME IS BEAUTIFUL

The first big party of the season celebrated one of the most emblematic perfume and cosmetics brands in Paris: Lancôme.

A stone staircase dotted with colored light led VIP guests, including model Noémie Lenoir, to the lavish Petit Palais palace on the banks of the Seine on Monday evening.

This season, L’Oreal-owned Lancôme celebrated the 10th anniversary of its best-selling French fragrance « La Vie Est Belle » – or « life is beautiful ». Victoria’s Secret model Sara Sampaio also partied at the famous art museum in a black ruffled mini.
