IQALUIT, Nunavut – The RCMP watchdog is examining how the police force handles complaints from the public in Nunavut.
The RCMP Civilian Review and Complaints Commission said it is investigating policies and training related to the complaints process in Nunavut and whether the RCMP follows them.
The agency will also consider whether the public is aware of and confident in this complaint process.
The Inquiry will not rule on specific incidents or the conduct of individual RCMP members.
The CBC reported that several Nunavut leaders and the Nunavut Legal Services Board have called for a systemic review of policing in the territory in 2020.
This report from The Canadian Press was first published on August 4, 2022.
