Orioles suddenly have life – and are still stuck in last place

Camden Yards has rocked – at least since last week.

The Baltimore Orioles, which have historically been one of baseball’s worst teams, are currently enjoying an eight-game winning streak after beating an imploding Angels team on Sunday.

The eight-game winning streak marks the Orioles’ longest such single-season streak since 2005.

Baltimore started the streak on July 3 by beating the Minnesota Twins, 3-1. Next, the hot Orioles team swept the Rangers and Angels.

« I’ve been waiting for a week like this for a long time, most of my career, » Trey Mancini, who has played with the Orioles since 2016, told reporters after the game. “It’s something that I certainly don’t take for granted. We’re just having a great time here, playing so well as a team.

Even with the winning streak, the Orioles are still last in the AL East and are 19 games behind the Yankees, who led the division in baseball’s best record (61-24) heading into Sunday night’s game against Boston. .

Baltimore, however, is only four games behind the Red Sox, who came second in the division on Sunday at 46-39, just one game ahead of third-placed Tampa Bay. The Orioles are also just 2.5 games shy of the last AL wildcard spot.
