Order! Climate activists glue themselves to the chair of the speaker of the British parliament – POLITICO

Climate activists from the group Extinction Rebellion glued themselves to the chair of the speaker of the British House of Commons.
The campaign group posted a photo on social media showing three people holding hands in front of the president’s chair while two other members of the group held up signs saying « let the people decide » and « citizens assembly now ».
In a statement, the group said around 50 people were involved in the protest, including three who had been booked for an official tour of the building.
The group said another member climbed the scaffolding around Big Ben while two others chained themselves to the railings.
However, no MPs were in the chamber as parliament does not resume its summer recess until Monday when Liz Truss or Rishi Sunak replace Boris Johnson as Tory leader and prime minister.
All the members of the group were fully clothed, which has not been the case in other demonstrations of this type. In April 2019, half-naked members of Extinction Rebellion entered the public gallery during a Brexit debate and stuck to the glass separating MPs from the public.
The topless protesters had slogans such as « For all life » and « Stop wasting time » painted on their bodies.
Then, in September 2020, a group of around 30 topless Extinction Rebellion activists locked themselves outside parliament holding a banner reading « Can’t you find out the truth? »
