OPENAI announced on Tuesday that it directed adolescents to a version adapted to the age of its Chatgpt technology while it seeks to strengthen the guarantees in the middle of an increased control period on the safety of the chatbot.
Chatbot users identified as under 18 will be automatically directed to a version of Chatgpt governed by “age adapted” content rules, Openai said in a press release. This underdevelop edition includes protection policies such as blocking sexual content and – “in rare cases of acute distress” – the police to ensure the safety of a user, according to the company.
“The way Chatgpt responds to a 15 -year -old child should be different from the way he reacts to an adult,” said society in the announcement.
Openai also said that he introduced parental checks, such as parents to link their account to their adolescent, to manage cat history, to define hours of breakdown and more. The guarantees will be available by the end of September.
The announcement comes only a few days after the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) launched an investigation into the potential negative effects of Chatbot companions ai on children and adolescents. Openai said it prioritizes “to make the Chatppt useful and safe for everyone, and we know that security is above all when young people are involved.
Before the FTC probe, Openai said he would introduce Additional security protection For vulnerable users and adolescents, after Adam Raine’s parents, 16, from California, who died by suicide in April, continued the company at the end of last month. Raine’s family alleys that the pussy led their teenager suicide.
It is not known how OPENAI plans to indentify the age of users, however, he said that if the Chatppt is not sure of someone’s age or has incomplete information, it will be by default the under -18 version.
OPENAI did not immediately respond to the request for comments from CBS Moneywatch.
Other technological companies have taken similar measures to protect users from adolescents from inappropriate content. YouTube, for example, announced a new Age estimate technology This will follow the types of videos that users watch and how long they have had their account to check if they are under 18 years of age.
According to a report from the Pew April Research Center, parents are generally more concerned with the mental health of adolescents than the adolescents themselves. Among the parents who are at least somewhat concerned about the mental health of adolescents, 44% said that social media had the most important negative impact on adolescents.
