Ontario reported 18 new deaths from COVID-19 on Friday, after reporting 14 the day before.
Authorities said 1,453 people in hospital had COVID-19, two more than Thursday. The number of intensive care patients fell slightly from the previous day, from 175 to 168.
Health officials also report 1,969 new infections detected by PCR tests, screening limited to certain priority groups.
According to the scientific director of the committee that advises the government on COVID-19, this figure should probably be multiplied by 10 to obtain a more accurate picture of the situation.
The positivity rate stood at 12%, an increase of 1.3 percentage points from the previous day.
More than 26% of long-term care homes in Ontario had active outbreaks of COVID-19 as of Wednesday.
