Ons Jabeur advances to Wimbledon Round of 16

LONDON — Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur easily beat France’s Diane Parry, 6-2, 6-3, to reach the knockout stages at Wimbledon.

Jabeur reached the quarter-finals a year ago at the All England Club.

Jelena Ostapenko has won 12 of the last 13 games to beat Romania’s Irina-Camelia Begu, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1.

The Latvian, the 2017 French Open champion, was trailing 6-3 and 1-0 when she turned things around. She won nine games in a row to take a 3-0 lead in the deciding set before Begu finally managed to earn her serve.

Ostapenko then saved a break point in the next game to lead 4-1.

Also, Heather Watson advanced to the fourth round by virtue of a 7-6 (6), 6-2 win over Slovenia’s Kaja Juvan. She will now face Germany’s Jule Niemeier.

In the men’s draw, Frances Tiafoe earned her fourth-round ticket to Wimbledon for the first time by defeating Kazakh Alexander Bublik — 3-6, 7-6(1), 7-6(3), 6 -4.

The American, 23rd seed, is in his fifth participation in the London tournament.

Bublik had 25 aces, but he double-faulted 13, including on match point.

Tiafoe’s best Grand Slam run remains a quarter-final appearance at the 2019 Australian Open.
