DOHA, Qatar (AP) — Olivier Giroud broke Thierry Henry’s France record with his 52nd goal for the national team on Sunday, giving the defending champions a 1-0 lead over Poland in the Cup round of 16 of the world.
Giroud, 36, had equaled Henry’s record of 51 goals when he scored twice in a 4-1 win over Australia in France’s opener in Qatar.
On Sunday, Giroud caught a 44th-minute pass from Kylian Mbappe and sent a left-footed low shot past Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny, his former Arsenal teammate.
