Columbus, Ohio – First -year students Ashlee Croll and Brooklyn Baldwin are part of something new this fall at the Ohio State University which will instill artificial intelligence lessons in each adult.
“As a major biography, you must take many hard science lessons, math lessons,” CBS News told CBS News. “So there will be difficulties along the way, you know, I will not be able to access a tutor all the time. So I think AI will be a little useful to that.”
The objective of the initiative, the fluence, is that the students, starting with the 2029 class, will graduate and speak their adults fluently and ai.
“I hope they learn to use it effectively for, you know, think, to organize thoughts, but they do not replace their critical thinking,” Kevin Richards, deputy professor in language in Osu, told.
From this year, all first -year students are required to take a generative AI course and several workshops for real world applications to help them master technology.
Over the past decade, the number of job lists Asking for AI skills climbed 619% in the United States, According to a recent analysis From the Brookings Institution, a Washington -based reflection group, DC. In the past year only, the number of jobs on the theme of AI-AI increased by 103%, BrooKings revealed.
“It’s something that really helps you do your job better,” CBS News von Ahn, CEO of Duolingo, the popular application that teaches foreign languages told CBS. “… Having something in your CV that says that something about AI would give you an advantage, because a large part of our work is done in this way.”
Von Ahn says that AI has not replaced any full -time position in Duolingo. However, he explains that it took more than a decade to the company to create his first 100 courses. Using AI, it created nearly 150 new ones in the past year only.
“This allows us to go faster and it allows us to create, you know, high quality content just at a much higher rate,” said Von Ahn.
Many Americans remain skeptical about AI. In a new survey of American adults published Wednesday by the Pew Research Center, 53% of respondents said they thought that AI would aggravate people to think in a creative way.
The OSU hopes that the shift in AI in its program will help the curriculum vitae of its students to stand out. Baldwin is temporarily optimistic, this will give it an advantage when it enters the labor market.
“There are a lot of things I didn’t know before taking this course,” said Baldwin. “And if there are other students who have not been offered in class like this, and have not been informed of these new AI tools, then maybe have a head start in this direction.”
