Novak Djokovic heads into Wimbledon fourth round with comfortable win over Miomir Kecmanovic

Novak Djokovic produced another dominant performance to reach the fourth round of Wimbledon after beating fellow Serbian Miomir Kecmanović 6-0 6-3 6-4 on Friday.

After a comprehensive straight-sets victory over Australia’s Thanasi Kokkinakis earlier in the week, Djokovic was once again in ruthless mood on center court as he swept past Kecmanović.

« Honestly, I think I’m playing better and better as the tournament progresses, which is what you always want, » Djokovic said in his post-match on-court interview.

« You want to raise the level of tennis a notch every game, so that’s what happens.

« I know I can always do better and I always expect my best, but so far so good and I’m looking forward to the next round. »

The top seed sailed through the first set in just 24 minutes as he continues his quest to claim a fourth straight Wimbledon title.

It wasn’t until the second game of the second set that Kecmanović, ranked 30th in the world, entered the scoreboard. At one point this set was even at 3-3, but Djokovic pulled away with a break of serve at 4-3.

In the final set, Djokovic broke twice before Kecmanović responded with his own break – his first of the match.

It proved too little too late, however, and the 20-time Grand Slam champion clinched the emphatic victory within two hours, much to the delight of the crowd.

« I don’t take your presence for granted, so thank you for coming out and supporting tennis and both players, we appreciate that, » he said, addressing center court.

Djokovic will face Dutchman Tim van Rijthoven in the fourth round. The world No. 104, a wildcard in the Wimbledon draw, has climbed the rankings in recent weeks before making his first Grand Slam appearance.

Van Rijthoven beat Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-4 6-3 6-4 on Friday to extend his winning streak to eight matches.
