Novak Djokovic detained before the hearing
Novak Djokovic was arrested by Australian border authorities on Saturday morning under a court-ordered arrangement decided on Friday.
Djokovic, the best male tennis player in the world, has had his visa withdrawn twice by immigration authorities because he is not vaccinated against COVID-19.
The tennis star was interviewed by the Australian Border Force at 8am Saturday local time (4pm ET Friday) at an undisclosed location “agreed between the parties” in the case.
Djokovic is set to spend Saturday night in pre-immigration detention as his case is heard in Australian Federal Court, just hours before he takes part in the Australian Open.
Hearings are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday to decide whether the Serbian star will be expelled or allowed to stay in the country for the tournament.
