NL: Minister of Health meets with Ukrainian doctors

SAINT-JEAN, NL — Newfoundland and Labrador’s health minister will meet with Ukrainian doctors in the province on Thursday who fled Russian attacks on their country.
Some Ukrainian doctors said they arrived in the province eager to obtain a license to practice, but were met with silence from the provincial government.
A statement released Tuesday evening by the provincial Department of Health said Minister Tom Osborne would meet with them on Thursday to discuss their concerns.
The government says it has consulted with several healthcare regulators in the province to explore how barriers could be lowered for Ukrainian doctors applying for licenses to practice.
Some Ukrainian doctors in Saint John say they have been in contact with officials in Nova Scotia who have offered them help in moving to that province.
The Nova Scotia Department of Health said Tuesday it was not aware of any « proactive communications » with Ukrainian doctors in Newfoundland, but added that anyone who has completed their intake form online for Ukrainian doctors had been contacted.
