The NYPD is looking for several suspects involved in a series of burglaries on Staten Island, including the theft of a Rolls-Royce convertible in the middle of the night.
In the June 12 incident, suspects threw a rock through the window of a home in Staten Island’s Lighthouse neighborhood and stole car keys before fleeing in the 2017 Rolls-Royce Dawn sedan .
The owner of the vehicle, identified only as John, told the Staten Island Advance he was able to reverse roles for the burglars by using a remote kill switch to turn off the luxury ride, then used a Built-in tracking device to locate in Newark, New Jersey.
“I was down in seconds as they pulled out of the driveway,” John told the local newspaper. “They tried to turn it back on, but they couldn’t because I turned it off.”
A used 2017 Rolls-Royce Dawn has a typical listing price of around $282,000, according to automotive research firm Kelley Blue Book.

The suspects were responsible for two other nearby burglary attempts earlier in the evening, but failed both times, according to the NYPD.
At around 4:30 a.m., the same thieves allegedly attempted to break into another Staten Island home and abduct two cars, but fled the house after a resident began yelling at them.
The five suspects were described by the NYPD as dark-skinned men. Three of them were wearing black sweatpants and hoodies. One wore a red hoodie with the word “Kappa” on it, while another wore a black hoodie with white lettering on the front.

Auto thefts on Staten Island are up 116.3% this year compared to the same period in 2021, according to NYPD data.
