NCC reaches agreement with senators to build an arena at LeBreton Flats

The National Capital Commission announced Thursday that it has reached a memorandum of understanding with the Ottawa Senators for the construction of a new arena at LeBreton Flats.

The announcement is the first step for the Senators to finalize an agreement with the crown corporation to build a new arena near the city’s downtown core.

The team currently plays at the Canadian Tire Center in Kanata, well outside of downtown.

Late Senators owner Eugene Melnyk and John Ruddy won the right to build at LeBreton Flats in 2016, but couldn’t agree — and the partnership fell apart following multiple lawsuits.

Anna and Olivia Melnyk, Eugene’s daughters, now own the team after Eugene passed away earlier this year.

More soon.
