National War Memorial: Anand calls for ‘desecration’ to Tomb of Unknown Soldier

The federal government is facing new calls to step up security at the National War Memorial after footage emerged showing someone draping flags over the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Footage and video of the event, streamed live online Sunday evening, showed someone bowing their head at the grave, which was draped with American and Canadian flags.
Defense Minister Anita Anand denounced the « desecration » of the memorial, calling it « unacceptable and shameful ».
Nujma Bond, spokeswoman for the Royal Canadian Legion, said the incident highlights the organisation’s repeated calls for more security as the site has become a magnet for those protesting the restrictions linked to the COVID-19 and the Liberal government.
The Ottawa Police Service has not yet responded to requests for comment.
Public Services and Procurement Canada says it is currently reviewing footage of the incident.
