Municipal elections in Manitoba: Scott Gillingham elected new mayor of Winnipeg

WINNIPEG — Scott Gillingham won Winnipeg’s mayoral election on Wednesday night, succeeding Brian Bowman, who did not seek re-election.
Mr. Gillingham recently completed two terms as a city councilor and chaired the city’s finance committee for much of that time.
He campaigned with pledges to repair roads, to provide housing for the homeless and to improve frontline services.
Scott Gillingham was chosen over ten other candidates, including former mayor Glen Murray, who wanted to return to the job he left in 2004.
Mr. Gillingham will succeed Brian Bowman, who completed two terms and did not seek re-election.
Voters across the province headed to the polls on Wednesday to elect Manitoba’s municipal politicians and school trustees.
