More than 300 personalities call to protect the Kurdish community

“The Kurds protected us. In turn, we owe them protection. This Thursday, in the columns of Le Monde, more than 300 left-wing political representatives, association activists, trade unionists, artists and academics signed a platform to demand greater protection for the Kurdish community, bereaved by the massacre in the street of Enghiens. “This act is much more than a racist crime committed by a racist “urge the signatories, including the national secretary of the PCF, Fabien Roussel, the president of the FI group in the Assembly, Mathilde Panot, the national secretary of EELV Marine Tondelier and the first secretary of the PS Olivier Faure. If during his arrest, the suspect, William Malet, had admitted his “hatred of foreigners has become completely pathological” the authors of the text point to the « guilty liability »politicians « who accuse foreigners of all evils », participating in « the rise of far-right ideas in France » . But, beyond that, they denounce « the suffering of too much of a people who have already suffered far too much, constantly risking death wherever they find themselves”. The Kurdish diaspora is a « priority target » because she » is free « , what “thwarts the propaganda of totalitarian states” and she is « more than ever threatened, in particular by the current Turkish regime »,also write the signatories underlining the means deployed “to destabilize, hunt down and attempt to silence all their political opponents” by « the Turkish intelligence services (MIT), with the help of the Gray Wolves ».

« Without guarantees of justice, truth and freedoms, the Kurdish community and first and foremost Kurdish women, will never feel safe in France and in Europe »,they add, recalling the assassination of three Kurdish activists, Fidan Dogan, Sakine Cansız and Leyla Söylemez, on January 9, 2013 and whose sponsors are still not identified. According to the Kurdish Democratic Center of France (CDKF), a stakeholder in the forum, the responsibility of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in this triple murder is beyond doubt.

In order to « to provide the Kurds with the justice and protection they deserve », the authors of the forum formulate several proposals and challenge the French and European authorities. To no longer give in to yet another blackmail from Erdoğan”they ask in particular to strengthen the protection of places of activism, and to create a specific unit intended to report“any attempt to intimidate Kurdish opponents”. The authors also demand an end to all cooperation with the Turkish intelligence services, and the removal of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) from the list of terrorist organizations. They also call for the declassification of the triple assassination of 2013, which, 10 years and one attack later, remains unpunished under cover of « Top secret« .
