Auto-runner Chris Taylor advanced on Cody Bellinger’s single in the 10th. Betts then hit a line drive off Marlins reliever Andrew Nardi (0-1) that bounced down the warning trail left.

Trea Turner followed with an RBI single, Freeman hit a brace, and Max Muncy capped the five-run outburst with a two-RBI double.

The Dodgers overcame three errors.

« He was resilient, we didn’t play good defense tonight, » Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. « We gave them extra strikeouts, but in the end we won a ball game. »

Marlins rookie Peyton Burdick beat David Price (2-0) to lead the ninth and tie at 5-all.

Betts’ second shot, a solo shot tying the Miami game against reliever Tanner Scott in the ninth, made it 4-4. It was the third multi-home game of the season for Betts and the 23rd of his career.

« It was pretty cool, I guess, » Betts said of her milestone. « It’s a long game to play so we’ll see what else I can do. »

MLB ALL-STAR GAME 2022: MOOKIE BETTS SEND MESSAGE AHEAD OF FIRST LAUNCH

The Marlins took a 4-3 lead on Joey Wendle’s single with the bases loaded in the seventh. The runs-laden bases of Miguel Rojas equalized before Wendle hit a short dribble near the first base foul line that scored JJ Bleday from third.

Betts hit a two-point shot in the first half that gave Los Angeles a 3-2 advantage. He drove reliever Dylan Floro’s 2-2 pitch over the left wall for his 28th homer.

« That’s why he’s one of the best players in the game, » Roberts said of Betts. « It’s fun to watch. What a great performance. »

Betts, who also made it simple in Game 1, wouldn’t accept the description of Los Angeles bailing out in Game 1 of the four-game series against Miami.

« I just want to win no matter where we are in the standings, » Betts said. « Every day I show up and I want to win. So I do everything I can to help the team. »

Wendle’s two RBI double with the bases loaded in the sixth gave the Marlins a 2-1 lead and chased Dodgers starter Tyler Anderson. The southpaw allowed two runs, three hits, walked two and struck out four in 5 1/3 innings.

“The 10th (round) is what it is, but it was really good to see the fight, to come from behind three times,” Wendle said. « Really good to just see some resilience. »

The Dodgers blocked six runners through the first five innings before Taylor’s sacrificial fly in the sixth broke the scoreless tie.

Tommy Nance started and threw two scoreless two-hit innings in the reliever game for Miami. He walked two and pulled out one.

Scott, who squandered his sixth save opportunity, allowed Freeman’s two-out single before giving walks to Will Smith and Muncy. Cole Sulser picked Scott up and gave up Justin Turner’s single at center.

« With Tanner, it’s always the same, it seems, » Marlins manager Don Mattingly said. « He’s walking a tightrope. He’s still on the brink. Today he just didn’t come out of it. »

THE MARLINS CUT TIES WITH AGUILAR

Miami has designated veteran first baseman Jesús Aguilar for assignment. Aguilar’s playing time has been drastically reduced over the past four weeks. Aguilar, a 2018 NL All-Star while with Milwaukee, joined the Marlins in 2020 and helped lead the club to its first playoff appearance since winning the World Series in 2003. The Venezuela native has led 15 homers and 49 RBIs.
