Military plane and ferry used to search for missing man in Georgian Bay

Ontario Provincial Police and personnel from Canadian Forces Base Trenton participate in a sea and air search for a missing man in Georgian Bay, last seen between Christian Island and Beckwith Island .

The Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police said a 67-year-old man was reported missing from a vessel around 12:35 a.m. Saturday.

Police said the man moored his boat on the west side of Beckwith Island and used an orange inflatable to retrieve an inflatable kayak and paddle board that had come loose.

Officers recovered the kayak, paddle board and orange inflatable with no sign of the missing man, who police say was not wearing a life jacket when he was last seen.

Naval officers from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment are assisting in the search, along with a Griffon search and rescue helicopter and a Hercules fixed-wing search and rescue aircraft from the Joint Rescue Coordination Center CFB Trenton and the Beausoleil First Nation Indian Maiden Ferry.

Police are warning boaters that marine light flares are likely to be used to aid in the search.
