« Inner Game » was a 2019 film about an NBA match-fixing scandal centered on Game 7 of the 2002 NBA Western Conference Finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Sacramento Kings.

NBA Sports, paraphrasing former NBA referee Tim Donaghy, described the scandal: « Longtime NBA official Dick Bevatta was kind of a fixer for the league. And in controversial Game 6, he may have helped change the outcome of the match and ultimately, the series. »

As the Kings enter Game 6 with a 3-2 series lead, the two furious final two minutes NBA referees called foul after foul on Sacramento to lead the series to a Game 7 while ignoring the clear faults committed by Los Angeles. The Lakers won the series in seven games and would win their third NBA championship in three seasons.

PREPARE FOR ‘ANARCHY’: ILLINOIS RESIDENTS REACT TO NEW LAW ON SET TO HANDCUFF POLICE

Though they don’t rise to the level of a criminal conspiracy, Republicans like us, fighting to save our state from rising taxes and record crime, feel like they’re up against an « inside game. » » similar. The actors: the Chicago Democratic Machine and the Chicago media.

Don’t get me wrong, we are a blue state. Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, John Kerry, Al Gore and Bill Clinton have all won our state in a big way.

In 20 years, a Republican has occupied the governor’s mansion only once and for a single term. Last time we held the General Assembly presidency, the Gin Blossoms were the hottest band in the country and DVDs had only just begun to go on sale.

Illinois Republicans haven’t held a majority on the state Supreme Court since our new constitution was written in 1970. Meanwhile, our Democratic counterparts have been able to pass the most gerrymandered maps in the nation, which reduces liability.

Despite these facts – thanks to our governor’s record on crime, taxes and corruption – we have a chance.

ROOFTOP REVELATIONS: GOV. PRITZKER PROMOTES THE RELEASE OF MINORITY CRIMINALS OVER THE PROTECTION OF MINORITY VICTIMS

Our Governor, JB Pritzker, joined Democratic Governor of California Gavin Newsom and then Democratic Governor of New York Andrew Cuomo in instituting some of the worst shutdowns in the country.

Crime is at record highs and with the looming end of cash bail in our state, even Democratic state prosecutors are suing the Pritzker administration to prevent the release of violent criminals. Now queue the inner game.

An outside group supporting Pritzker’s opponent, Republican Darren Bailey, ran an ad titled « Scream » seeking to highlight voters’ main problem – rising crime.

The ad featured an assault on the streets of Chicago — an all-too-common occurrence in the town of Pritzker and Lori Lightfoot.

Governor Pritzker and the Illinois Democrats feigned outrage that anyone dared to highlight the violence highlighted by their signature legislation. Pritzker appealed to the Chicago media and the ad was taken down within days. Red whistle.

Trying to hold on to their slim majority on the state Supreme Court at all costs, Democratic outside groups are spending millions in competitive court races to run divisive ads accusing our candidates of wanting to “criminalize” abortion.

Their sources? Untraceable, because they are fake. We appeal to the referee, no appeal to blue. Ads remain in place.

Recently, a candidate who ran against 30-year-old Democratic incumbent Jan Schakowsky brought a replacement to the endorsement session of a suburban Chicago newspaper.

It was clearly a prank — though it did distract from Schakowsky’s terrible record in Congress.

The Daily Herald effectively called it an unprecedented affront to democracy and demanded condemnation from the state’s Republican Party. Flagrant foul on red.

Meanwhile, they completely ignored Rep. Schakowsky’s own husband’s own history as an anti-Trump provocateur guilty of the same behavior they condemned. No call on blue.

We are at a crossroads in the history of our country. According to a 2021 Gallup report, Americans’ confidence in the ability of newspapers, television and radio to deliver news fairly and honestly is hovering around record highs.

Speaking on the topic of media trust with former NBC News « Today Show » anchor Matt Lauer in 2017, former President George W. Bush candidly said, « You mattered more when you were three. »

In his view, more voters are now seeking their information from social media or non-traditional sources than ever before. The lesson is clear – in an environment where mainstream media must compete for viewers, trust matters and if viewers don’t trust mainstream media, they will go elsewhere for their news.

America’s mainstream media must return to holding Democrats and Republicans equally accountable. A consistent standard is all public demands.

This is how faith in journalism will be restored and the « inside game » will end here in Illinois and in our country.
