Microsoft represses the bypass methods that allow Windows 11 installations to use a local account and avoid an internet connection required during the installation process. In a new Windows 11 test version published today, Microsoft indicates that it is deleting by circumvention solutions known for the creation of local accounts, as they can apparently cause problems during the installation process.
“We delete the known mechanisms of creating a local account in the installation experience of Windows (Oobe),” said Amanda Langowski, head of the Windows Insider program. “Although these mechanisms are often used to circumvent the configuration of the Microsoft account, they also inadvertently ignore critical configuration screens, which can lead users to leave Oobe with a device that is not entirely configured to be used.”
Changes mean that Windows 11 users will have to complete Oobe screens with an internet connection and a Microsoft account in future versions of the operating system.
Microsoft has already deleted the “Bypassnro” bypassing solution earlier this year, and today’s changes also deactivate the “Start MS-CXH: Localonly” command that Windows 11 users discovered after the previous changes of Microsoft. The use of this command now resets the OOBE process and cannot bypass the Microsoft account requirement.
These bypass solutions have been widely used to avoid a Microsoft account or Internet access on Windows 11 Pro and Home installations in recent years. They are easy to use, so you don’t need to create a personalized response file without assistance to force Windows 11 to create a local account.
Many Windows users simply want to avoid using a Microsoft account or simply want to customize the name of the user folder created by Windows 11 from the email address of a Microsoft account. Fortunately, Microsoft now adds a way to name your default user folder during the installation process, even if you will have to use a command to obtain a personalized folder name. Hopefully this will eventually become a simple option during the configuration process.
