Eight people were injured Wednesday morning when a Metrolink train arriving at Union Station collided with a stationary train, authorities said.

The incident happened around 7:30 a.m. and a passenger was taken to a hospital for treatment, Metrolink spokesman Brett Hawkins said. Six passengers and the train driver were slightly injured.

Ventura County Line train 104 was carrying 85 passengers when it crashed into an empty Metrolink train on the platform. The cause of the collision remains under investigation by Metrolink’s Safety, Security and Compliance department.

The affected trains were going to be used for San Bernardino Line trains 310 and 327, both of which were later canceled.

“Luckily, at that time of the morning, San Bernardino Line trains are running every 30 minutes, so the operational impact hasn’t been too great,” Hawkins said.

In June, a tractor-trailer collided with a Metrolink train in Moorpark, killing the truck driver and sending a passenger to the hospital. In January, a Metrolink train hit a car in the City of Industry, killing two people inside the vehicle.
