Maryland man arrested in Florida, charged with human trafficking

A Maryland-based rapper has been taken into police custody in Florida over human trafficking allegations, authorities say.
Monriko Clements, also known as King Swuice, allegedly met a 23-year-old woman on a dating site and took her to Florida to sell her body for sex, investigators have said. He would then keep the money she earned from the sex trade.
Clements had started publicizing the woman, his former girlfriend, shortly after meeting her online, and had started putting arrangements in place. She had recently lost her job and Clements had promised her quick money through prostitution.

But after selling her services, Clements kept the $20,000 she earned.
According to police, the victim was able to free himself from Clements by jumping out of a moving vehicle.
« She jumped out of a moving car, risking injury and death because she couldn’t think of a better way to avoid the beatings, » the Miami County state’s attorney said Thursday. Dade, Katherine Fernandez Rundle, at a press conference.

« For pimps, the victims are not human beings. They are simply a commodity, » Fernandez Rundle said.
Clements is charged with one count of human trafficking and one count of deriving support from the proceeds of prostitution. He was extradited to Florida after fleeing to Maryland.
