Maruti Suzuki to invest ₹35,000 crore in Gujarat for new 10 lakh-unit plant

Maruti Suzuki India Limited is set to invest ₹35,000 crore in developing a new manufacturing plant at Khoraj in Gujarat, targeting an annual production capacity of 10 lakh cars. The facility is expected to create jobs for approximately 12,000 people.

The factory will be established on 1,750 acres of land allocated by the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC).

The investment letter was handed over by Maruti Suzuki Managing Director Shriyut Hitachi Takeuchi to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel at a ceremony in Gandhinagar. Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi and Maruti Suzuki whole-time director and executive committee member Sunil Kakkar were also present.

“I am happy to witness the submission of the investment letter of Maruti Suzuki India Limited to the Gujarat government for setting up a mega automobile manufacturing plant at Khoraj, with an investment of ₹35,000 crore,” CM Patel said in an article on X. He added that the project would catalyze the growth of ancillary units and MSMEs, thereby creating a robust automobile manufacturing cluster.

CM Patel also highlighted the India-Japan partnership, saying the presence of Maruti Suzuki reflects global confidence in Gujarat’s political governance, world-class infrastructure and industry-friendly ecosystem. “Gujarat has clearly emerged as one of India’s leading automobile hubs and a preferred destination for global investors,” he said.

Deputy CM Sanghvi described the investment as “a proud moment in Gujarat’s growth story”, adding that the commitment will bring jobs, innovation and industrial growth to the state. He said partnerships like these show how a supportive environment can attract leading companies to invest and grow.

Maruti Suzuki started operations in 1983 with its first production plant in Gurugram, Haryana. Over the years, the company has expanded its industrial presence across India, including facilities in Gurugram, Manesar and Kharkhoda in Haryana, and recently integrated its Gujarat plant into its operations.

The automaker plans to increase its manufacturing capacity to 4 million units per year to meet growing domestic demand and supply international markets. Maruti Suzuki now produces 17 models and over 650 variants at its facilities.

The company recorded its highest ever annual production in 2025, manufacturing over 22.55 lakh units, marking the second consecutive year that it crossed 20 lakh units, including domestic sales, exports and OEM supplies.

The top five models in terms of production volume in 2025 were Fronx, Baleno, Swift, Dzire and Ertiga.
