Mariah Carey responds after Dolly Parton confirms which of them is the real Christmas queen

Dolly Parton has become increasingly associated with Christmas in recent years, largely thanks to several holiday-themed albums (including this year’s Holly Dolly Christmas) and made-for-TV movies such as « Christmas at Dollywood, » « Dolly Parton’s Christmas in the Square, » and the upcoming « Dolly Parton’s Magic Mountain Christmas, » which will premiere on NBC in early December.

In a recent interview with Better homes and gardensParton was discussing her various Christmas-related projects and her love of the holidays when it was suggested she could be « the new Queen of Christmas ».

Parton was quick to close this, acknowledging that there’s only one Christmas queen – and it’s not her.

« Now don’t say that! » I’m not going to compete with Mariah,” Parton told the magazine, acknowledging Mariah Carey as the true title holder.

« I love her. You think of Christmas, you think of Mariah, » Parton added. « I’m happy to be second to her. »

Carey caught wind of Parton’s comments and responded via Twitter.

« Dolly, let’s settle this one… You’re the Queen of Everything! » Queen of the World, Queen of Christmas, Queen of Mine!! Love you!!! » Carey wrote, adding three heart emojis.

During this time, Parton also reflected on why she turned to so many Christmas projects.

« Holidays make me very creative, because I’m happy, » she explained.

« And I try to remember, and I’m inspired by that, that Christmas spirit, » she added. “This spirit of Christ. Even if you don’t believe in Jesus, the spirit is really one of giving and tolerance, understanding and acceptance.
