Marc Messier finds his friend Éric Bruneau in « Before the crash »

Marc Messier plays a dying father in “Before the crash”, an invitation he could not decline since it came from his good friend Éric Bruneau, who signs this series with his wife Kim Lévesque-Lizotte.

The two men meet regularly on the tennis courts since they became friends on the set of « All the truth », a decade ago. Marc Messier then played his father in the judicial series of TVA.

In an interview with the QMI Agency, the 75-year-old actor says that he only associates himself with projects that stimulate him, like this one with the financial world as its backdrop. “I go where my pleasure takes me. And if they don’t offer me anything, it’s not a disaster like when you’re 35. At that age, you want to make a living.”

In « Before the crash », he plays Luc Paquette, who is suffering from cancer. “He faces death, but instead of being a victim, he’s a bit drooling with death. It gives it a dimension that we don’t often see, » said the man whose career will forever be associated with « Lance et compte », « La petite vie » and the franchise « Les boys ».

Luc’s $2 million life insurance premiums have skyrocketed since undergoing chemotherapy, reaching $6,000 a month. He therefore offers his son Vincent (Benoît Drouin-Germain) to “buy out” his contract. As the latter refuses for moral reasons, saying he does not want to « bet on the death » of his father, Luc turns to the latter’s friend, Marc-André (Éric Bruneau), offering to pay him each month half of the sum to receive $ 1 million at his death. Since Marc-André is broke, where will he find the money?

“Marc-André will embark on the project and a lot of business will ensue. This story will evolve a lot, it will be interesting, ”said Marc Messier.

Sooner or later, Marc-André and the other main protagonists – played by Émile Proulx-Cloutier, Mani Soleymanlou and Karine Vanasse – will hit a wall, hence the title “Before the crash”. Does the agreement between Luc partly explain his announced fall? “No, it’s a bit outside of that, but it still has to do, not directly, with the forfeiture of Marc-André. Luc will rather be a support for him, he will try to make him understand certain things and they will develop a friendship.

On stage and on the set of Anik Jean

Marc Messier touches on everything this fall. Very experienced on stage after his years alongside Michel Côté and Marcel Gauthier in « Broue », he resumed the tour of his show « Seul… en scène! », which he wrote and performed some forty times until last May. His friend Louis Saia and Mani Soleymanlou supported him with the texts, and the latter also signs the staging.

“It’s the first time I’ve done a solo show. It is a very positive experience. I play characters and it’s a lot of self-mockery. I actually explain why I was forced to break with my ego, which was becoming too enterprising. It starts large and it becomes more and more personal.

These days, he is also filming in Anik Jean’s first film, “My Mother’s Men”, and he can be seen in the “A Criminal Affair” series on Noovo.
