Police in Washington, D.C., arrested a man on Sunday who was found with hundreds of explosive devices outside the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle, which was celebrating a mass honoring the Supreme Court.
Police arrested Louis Geri, 41, a native of Arizona and New Jersey, while the church held its annual “Red Mass,” an event in which a cardinal prays for the Supreme Court as she begins her new term, the Daily Wire reported. The judges have always attended the event, but none were present on October 5 due to security concerns.
Police encountered Geri while trying to clear and secure the area for the Supreme Court event, according to an affidavit. Geri was then in a green tent on the church steps and allegedly told police, “You might want to stay back and call the feds, I have explosives.” »
Geri allegedly told a member of the Metropolitan Police bomb squad that he knew the Red Mass was taking place before threatening to throw a bomb into the street in protest. “I have more than a hundred,” he reportedly said.
The police informed Geri that they would forcibly deport him if he refused to leave, to which Geri allegedly threatened: “Several of your men will die because of one of these cases.” »
Geri reportedly had a light in one hand as he handed officers nine pieces of paper including a manifesto titled “Written Negotiations to Avoid Destruction of Property by Detonation of Explosives.”
The police wrote that the manifesto “revealed his great animosity toward the Catholic Church, members of the Jewish faith, members of SCOTUS, and ICE/ICE facilities.”
Geri then moved her right thumb on the butane lighter to trigger the ignition action and said, “You better get these people out of the way or there are going to be deaths,” the affidavit states.
Geri left the tent to relieve himself on a tree and three officers were able to apprehend him. As the officers did so, Geri told them he had a device in his pocket. A bomb squad technician reaches into his pocket and finds “a bottle with a white cap, which contained a yellow liquid inside, with an M device taped to the outside.”
After law enforcement arrested Geri, bomb squads recovered “a large cache of homemade destructive devices” from the tent, police said. Police on Monday filed an affidavit from a bomb technician who said “there was more than 200 devices recovered from D-1’s tent. A strong smell of acetone was escaping from some bottles. Some of the liquid was determined to be nitromethane. The liquid appeared to be several chemicals mixed together, none in the original containers…the devices appeared fully functional.
The suspect reportedly told police in a prison interview that he made his own grenades and “planned to use the modified bottle rockets with the foil heads attached and treated in a thermite solution to allow the devices to be detonated remotely.
Geri was charged with a litany of offenses including: unlawful entry; manufacturing, transferring, using, possessing or transporting Molotov cocktails or other explosives for illegal purposes; threats to kidnap or harm a person; two charges of assaulting a police officer; possession of a destructive device; manufacturing or possession of weapons of mass destruction (hate crime); and resisting arrest.
He is being held without bond, according to the report.
Three conservative justices attended last year’s Red Mass event, including Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett.
“In 2018, leftists were photographed protesting Mass with signs saying ‘Stop Kavanaugh’ and referencing the false smear peddled by Democratic senators that Kavanaugh was a gang rapist,” according to the report.

Geri’s arrest came just two days after a Biden-appointed judge handed down a lenient sentence to a transgender-identifying man who attempted to assassinate Kavanaugh in 2022. Judge Deborah Boardman sentenced the perpetrator to just eight years in prison instead of the 30 years to life recommended by sentencing guidelines.
Public records reviewed by the outlet indicate that Geri had been living in a motel in Mesa, Arizona, for several years, but is originally from Vineland, New Jersey. Geri was convicted in 2021 of indecent assault in Arizona and served time in state prison from August 2022 to May 2023, according to the report.
