Macau closes casinos as city enters week-long lockdown

HONG KONG – Macau’s gambling enclave will enter a citywide lockdown early Monday as authorities seek to contain a spiraling Covid-19 outbreak.

Along with essential services such as supermarkets, healthcare facilities and restaurants selling take-out food, all other businesses have been ordered to close for a week, with residents told to stay at home. City officials have urged the public not to panic buying food, asking people to shop at staggered times to allow for social distancing in queues.
