Los Angeles man arrested for beating toddler to death who suffered head and brain injuries

Authorities have arrested and charged a North Hollywood man in the brutal death of a 14-month-old baby, authorities say.
Cesar Daniel Cabrera Jr., 20, is charged with assaulting a child likely to render him or her comatose or paralyzed and with child abuse in circumstances or conditions likely to cause grievous bodily harm, the office said Friday. Los Angeles County District Attorney.
« The physical abuse suffered by this young boy is horrific. That the alleged perpetrator is the father of the child is inadmissible, » District Attorney George Gascon said in a statement. « The harm inflicted in this case warrants special allegations being brought. My office is committed to protecting our children by holding accountable anyone who abuses them. »
The charges also include special allegations of abuse of a child under 5 and a criminal offense while out on bail.

A police report says the 14-month-old boy suffered brain and head injuries as a result of the alleged abuse. Cabrera, her biological father, reportedly admitted to the crime during a police interview.

The alleged assault took place on March 22, while Cabrera was out on bail for a separate crime, according to court documents.

He posted bond on the day of the alleged crime and his arraignment is scheduled for September 13 in Los Angeles Superior Court, authorities said.
The Los Angeles Police Department is actively investigating the incident.
