Local auction house owner faces fraud, possession of stolen property charges: Ottawa Police

A 47-year-old Ottawa man has been charged with fraud and possession of stolen property after city police say investigators executed a search warrant at an auction house on Auriga Drive on Friday morning, seizing « many objects ».

Police launched the investigation last month into incidents that allegedly occurred between early 2019 and February 2022, the Ottawa Police Service said in a statement Friday. The business owner is alleged to have robbed at least five customers, police said.

The Western Criminal Investigations Section charged the man with two counts of fraud over $5,000, two counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000, five counts of fraud under $5,000. $000 and five counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000. The charges have not been tested in court.
Anyone with information, or who is « concerned about the current whereabouts of their personal effects on consignment » at the business, has been asked to contact the investigator at 613-236-1222, ext. 2653.
