THE STATEMENT
“We spent up to a billion dollars under François Legault in private agencies to see what finally? Fewer people in hospitals working and that cost us a fortune,” said Paul St-Pierre Plamondon.
FACTS
We are not talking about a billion, but rather 875 million dollars for the services provided by private agencies in the health network between April 2021 and March 2022. This is a record number for hiring of the independent workforce in the health network, according to data from the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS).

THE STATEMENT
PQ leader Paul St-Pierre-Plamondon says lower taxes are a one-way ticket to austerity.
FACTS
The concept of austerity is not as simple as the PQ leader suggests. Lower taxes can indeed lead to austerity, but there are several factors to consider. For example, the state may garner enough revenue, observe an increase in Gross Domestic Product (GDP), or borrow money to cover government expenditures and prevent a reduction in public services.

THE STATEMENT
Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois attacked Conservative leader Éric Duhaime over his environmental plan.
« Mr. Duhaime, you are suggesting to Quebecers that greenhouse gases increase, » he said.
FACTS
GND is right, the Conservative Party of Quebec affectionately admitted, in an interview published by the Journal on August 24, that GHGs would increase in Quebec because it plans to exploit more Quebec hydrocarbons.
It should be added, however, that according to Éric Duhaime, this will reduce hydrocarbon imports in Quebec, and therefore their production elsewhere. This is what, according to him, improves the planetary balance sheet of GHG emissions.

THE STATEMENT
“Mr. Bruneau, there are 300% more ultra-polluting vehicles on our roads compared to the 90s,” said Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois.
FACTS
The QS co-spokesperson is right, and he even underestimates the increase a bit. In the State of Energy 2020 report, it can be reported that from 1990 to 2019, the number of vehicles used for personal transportation has increased by 319%. This is also the vehicle category that experienced the strongest increase during this same period.

THE STATEMENT
Dominique Anglade attacked Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois on the promise of Quebec solidaire to tax the big fortunes.
“You want to tax people. You even want to go and tax farmers. That’s what you want to do, » she said.
FACTS
On September 6, Québec solidaire indeed promised to tax Quebecers whose net worth exceeds $1 million, which includes many farmers. However, the following day, the party backed down.
« I want to clarify the announcement we made yesterday: agricultural land will not be affected by the tax on large fortunes of Quebec solidaire, » said the co-spokesperson for QS.

THE STATEMENT
« The reality in the world, we still have 50 years of growth in gas demand, » said Éric Duhaime, pleading to continue the exploitation of hydrocarbons.
FACTS
We did not find any studies that predict an increase in demand until 2072. However, some recent studies predict a 47% increase in gas demand by 2050.
We also found a study from 1999 that predicts an increase in demand until 2050. Perhaps that is the study that Mr. Duhaime is referring to.

THE STATEMENT
François Legault declared that Quebec has the lowest rate of greenhouse gases per capita in North America.
FACTS
It’s true. According to the Conference Board of Canada, Quebec is at the top of the provincial ranking, it is the only one in Canada to obtain an « A » grade and is 7th in a ranking of 26 provinces and countries compared with each other. With emissions of around 10 tonnes of CO2 equivalent per capita, it compares to Denmark’s emissions. Sweden, at the top of the ranking, is at 5.8 tonnes. Canada and the United States get a D rating with 20.65 tonnes and 21.01 tonnes per capita respectively.
