Lexar microSD Express cards for Switch 2 are cheaper than ever

If you own a Nintendo Switch 2 and primarily buy digital games rather than cartridges (like me!), its 256GB of internal storage will run out quickly. Buying a microSD Express card gives you more storage, but at a higher cost than most people probably want to pay. However, Lexar 512GB and 1TB Express microSD cards are currently selling at the lowest prices we’ve ever seen.

The 512GB model costs $88.47 ($31 off) at Amazon, or doubles the extra storage to 1TB for $157.96 ($62 off), also at Amazon. It’s only a little more expensive than comparable cards from Onn, Walmart’s in-house brand, but those are often out of stock (including at the time of publication). Overall, these are the best prices we’ve ever seen for this expensive storage.

The number of games you can install on a microSD Express card of course depends on the size of the card you buy, as well as the games in your library. For example, Donkey Kong Bananza requires only 8.9 GB, while Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Editionn eats up 60.6 GB. Either way, having extra space for digital games will probably be necessary at some point, even if it isn’t right now.

Here’s another reason why you should consider buying one, especially when they’re cheaper: Several publishers are opting for Nintendo Switch 2 Game-Key cards, which look like cartridges, but are actually keys that unlock a download and authenticate your system for playing it. So even if you buy a physical cartridge of a new game, you may have to rely on the extra storage space offered by a microSD Express card to allow you to play it.
